Easter

Posted by Jimmy on Apr 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

I love Easter!  It’s a special holiday that has just enough commercialism in it to be fun, but not to detract from the true meaning.  Unfortunately, we don’t really take pictures of the more religious parts of the holiday, so here are some of the fun parts!

We lured Henry out to his Easter basket.  He took a lot of persuading!

Nothing special – some sippy cups, arrowroot crackers, and some squishy baseballs.  The cups were his favorite!

Then we went to Jimmy’s parents’ house for Easter dinner and the annual Egg Derby!  Everyone was nice enough to indulge me in a little egg hunt for the cousins :)

This was the first time the two boys actually PLAYED together!  It was SOOOOO cute and made me way happy!  Ethan was able to draw Henry out of his apron-string-clinging and they romped around the house!

What is an egg derby, you ask?  Think “demolition,” not “Kentucky.”  First you decorate eggs and name them.

Then you roll them at each other and see which one cracks.

It goes on from there, tournament style :)

Henry the Gardener

Posted by Jimmy on Apr 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

One of Henry’s favorite things to do is help me plant things.  Or unplant things.  We sit out on the front porch and he plays in the dirt of the flower pots while I make sure he doesn’t get too messy.  Sometimes he watches the neighbor kids playing in their yard.  We love springtime!

He also likes to eat the mail key – supervised, of course!

More porch time!

Petting Zoo and Jimmy’s birthday

Posted by Jimmy on Apr 13, 2009 in Uncategorized

We were driving back from Jimmy’s parents’ house after conference, and luckily the road to the freeway was closed and we stumbled upon this awesome petting zoo!  No fees, no place to check in or anything – it looked like it was just somebody’s farm, but there was hay out there for kids to grab and feed the animals.  So fun!

Henry took a while to warm up to the animals!

Jimmy learned how to talk turkey :D

It was also Jimmy’s birthday a while ago, and it was my first time to try out the cake decorating kit I got for Christmas!  It turned out kind of creepy – I wasn’t going for beautiful!

Wet Paper Towels

Posted by Jimmy on Apr 1, 2009 in Baby, Videos

Our boy, Henry, has a secret addiction: he loves wet paper towels the way Simon Cowell loves uncomfortably v-necked t-shirts.

It all started when we started using wet paper towels to wipe down his hands and face after he’s eaten some solid food. He hates being wiped off, but loves the paper towel. His goal is to simultaneously avoid being wiped off while grabbing the paper towel in grubby double fists and jamming it into his mouth. And once there, he’ll keep it there for a long time. Occasionally, we can hear him sucking some of the water out of it (“fffffft, fffffft, fffffft”), but most of the time he just keeps various amounts stuck in his mouth and we can’t help but laugh.

The following video has some toddling in it, but don’t be fooled - the real star is the wet, white quilted-quicker-picker-upper dangling from the young man’s maw.

Binkies? Can’t stand ‘em. Lightly moistened paper products? Now you’re speaking Henry’s language.
